Broadway Theatre Project (BTP), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization celebrating its 21th anniversary in 2011, is the renowned musical theatre intensive that provides its apprentices with critical training in the disciplines of acting, dancing and singing, taught by a faculty of accomplished educators and performers. As part of its mission, the program strives to engender students with the personal skills necessary to work and survive in the professional world of performing arts. Sessions are held annually every July in Tampa on the beautiful campus of the University of South Florida. Tony-Award-winning actor, singer and dancer Ben Vereen is the Artistic Director of the Broadway Theatre Project for 2012. Ben was just selected to be included in the Theatre Hall of Fame. CURRICULUM Students are chosen by auditions held around the country. BTP’s mission is to give every student a rich learning experience within a short span of time in order to engender a well-rounded, professional musical theatre performer. Approximately 50 highly trained artists and academicians teach in-depth classes in each discipline. Our curriculum consists of classes on a diverse range of topics. |
Broadway Theatre Project has successfully prepared and trained numerous apprentices who have performed in more than 70 different Broadway shows and countless films, television, national and world tours. Some recent Broadway successes include: BTP alum Sierra Boggess, who was Ariel in Disney’s long-running The Little Mermaid, and this past summer co-starred with Tyne Daly in the Broadway revival of Master Class; Sara Andreas, Alex Ellis, Aleks Pevec, Kristin Piro and Sarah Strimel, who all appeared in the recent hit Catch Me If You Can; Cameron Adams, Paige Faure Finger, Erica Mansfield and Ryan Watkinson, who are all currently starring in Broadway’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying; Jeff Metzler and Josh Buscher, who are both currently starring in Broadway’s Priscilla Queen of the Desert; Mandy Gonzalez, who recently completed a 10-month run starring as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway; and Chase Brock, who choreographed the current smash musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. The list continues.
In addition to the above, this past Broadway season Michael James Scott had the honor of receiving the coveted Gypsy Robe, which is given to the chorus member with the most Broadway credits. He received it for Book of Mormon. |

“I always feel like the use of the word Broadway is a moniker people give things, but the caliber of teachers and guest artists at Broadway Theatre Project are the real deal. I am a huge fan of BTP. It prepares the apprentices for a career and that is one of the things that keeps me going back.” - Patrick Wilson, Broadway Theatre Project Alum and Guest Artist |
