
Joan Lader has worked as a voice therapist and teacher in private practice in New York City for nearly 30 years. A Certified Master Teacher in Estill Voice Training, she has trained the voices of leading singers and actors on Broadway, in opera and film, and in pop, rock, R&B and rap music. Her clients have included Madonna, Roberta Flack, Patti LuPone, Dianne Reeves and Tonya Pinkins.
She is also well known for having worked extensively with performers who have injured voices and has conducted seminars in teaching methodology for singing teachers working with normal as well as injured voices. Joan’s "Care of the Professional Voice" workshops have been taught throughout the country, as well as technical workshops at Broadway Theatre Project (for which she serves on the Advisory Board), Calhoun College at Yale University, and North Carolina’s "The Lost Colony," the longest-running outdoor symphonic drama in the world.
She has been a guest lecturer at Columbia University, Pace University and Berklee College of Music as well as presenting at both the Voice Foundation in Philadelphia and the Pacific Voice Foundation in San Francisco. Professional affiliations include New York State Speech Language Hearing Association (NYSSLHA), National Association of Singing Teachers (NATS), and The Voice Foundation.
Joan received certification from New York Singing Teachers' Association (NYSTA) professional development program having completed its Core of Knowledge Curriculum and has a BS in Musical Theater from Pennsylvania State University and a Master's Degree in Speech Pathologist and Audiology from Hunter College. She has extensive training in the Alexander Technique as well as Fitzmaurice Voice Work and the work of Arthur Lessac, and her Estill Training began in New York City, with Jo Estill as mentor, in 1982.
