Garry McQuinn - 2012 BTP Guest Artist

As a native Australian currently based in London, Garry McQuinn has enjoyed a distinguished international career as a director, producer, stage manager and production manager – and as a prolific theatrical executive, a role in which his most current success is overseeing the massive international hit musical, Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Early on in his career, Garry formed Stage Business, a production company specializing in large-scale musicals such asDisney’s Beauty and the Beast, and The Boy from Oz, and then started a fortuitous tenure at London’s Back Row Productions as Managing Director, where he was responsible for producing and managing a range of international touring productions including Tap Dogs and Slava’s Snowshow.

For a period, Back Row was acquired by Clear Channel Entertainment, a company where Garry was made Executive Producer – Europe, and was responsible for theatrical tours throughout Europe and Asia/Australia, including the Tony Award-winning Fosse. Back Row eventually became independent of Clear Channel, which returned Garry to his role as the company’s Managing Director as well as Executive Producer for all productions.

He then launched and now serves as lead producer of the aforementioned and very successful Priscilla Queen of the Desert on stages in Sydney, London and New York, with preparation for productions in Italy and Brazil and plans for many other countries.

Garry graduated from Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), where he also served for a time as Head of the Production Course.

He is presently working on a new musical based on the iconic Australian coming of age novel Puberty Blues.
