Broadway Theatre Project is a three-week, intensive, musical theatre training program. Students attend classes in the three disciplines of musical theatre - acting, dance, voice and the courses associated with each.
The project focuses on creating a well-rounded musical theatre performer.
The BTP faculty is made up of working professionals from Broadway, theatre and film from around the world.
Here is some more "essential" information about BTP:
LOCATION
The Fine Arts Complex on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa.
PROGRAM DATES
Sunday, July 8th thru Sunday, July 29th, 2012
AGE REQUIREMENTS
Students must be at least 16 years of age by the beginning of the Project in order to be eligible for BTP. There is no set limit as to the age of our older students. Typically, older apprentice ages fall in the middle to upper 20s.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must excel in at least one of the disciplines of musical theatre: acting, voice or dance. They must also show both an interest in strengthening their skills and show signs of studying the other existing disciplines with success.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Students interested in attending BTP may attend a live audition or submit an audition DVD. Everyone auditioning (live or DVD) must present a completed application form, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, a headshot or photograph, and a $35.00 audition fee. DVD applications are due by March 2, 2012 and must be mailed to the Broadway Theatre Project Inc., 2780 E. Fowler Ave. STE 106, Tampa FL 33612-6297. For more information, please see the Detailed Audition Information page and the Audition FAQ page.
Acceptance letters are sent almost immediately after the completion of each audition. There is also the possibility that students will be placed on a wait list. Wait list students could be offered a position with BTP as early as April and as late as June.
TUITION
The total cost of attending the 2012 session is $3500.00. Once a student has been accepted, a non-refundable deposit of $700.00 will be due. The balance of tuition, $2800.00, will be due by May 18, 2012. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Broadway Theatre Project and must be sent to the Broadway Theatre Project Inc., 2780 E. Fowler Ave. STE 106, Tampa FL 33612-6297. No refunds are possible after June 10, 2012. Credit card payment is also available.
The tuition payment includes arrival and departure transportation between Tampa International Airport and the University of South Florida Embassy Suites Hotel, housing for 3 weeks at the hotel, including 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. It also includes participation in all classes held in the Fine Arts Complex at USF and participation in the Broadway Theatre Project Festival.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Limited scholarships are available and are awarded based almost entirely on financial need. Students accepted into the program who had indicated a need for a scholarship on the application should download the Financial Aid Form as soon as they receive their letter of acceptance; the completed financial aid form is due in the BTP office within two weeks of that time. Many students also get support from local businesses and organizations in their community – and we encourage students to additionally seek this type of support on their own.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Apprentices are required to provide proof of health and accident insurance, a physical exam, immunization records and additional paperwork required by Broadway Theatre Project that will be sent to those accepted by May 25, 2012. Upon acceptance, apprentices will be mailed a handbook detailing all rules and regulations by which they must abide during the Project as well as other pertinent information.
