More Information about Auditions: Students interested in attending BTP may attend a live audition or submit an audition via DVD. Applications must include:
These same requirements apply to both DVD applications and live auditions. Download the 2012 BTP Application here.
Please arrive well-prepared in advance, with:
There are no specific requirements for the songs or monologues. Applicants should simply choose pieces that they feel best show their strengths. Applicants will also be taught both jazz and tap combinations at the audition and should come prepared to dance. Material for cold readings will be provided.
Upon arrival applicants will register and be assigned a number. Their application, letter of recommendation, audition fee and photograph will be collected. Applicants will first be taught the jazz combination by an instructor. After learning the combination they will be evaluated in groups of 3 to 5. The same process will then be followed for the tap audition. If applicants have no tap experience they will be allowed to sit out this part of the audition. There is also an interest in tappers who improv well. When the dance audition is complete, students will go in order by the numbers they were assigned to perform their songs and monologues. When they have completed this they are released from the audition.
Video’d auditions do allow a bit more latitude than a live audition normally does. A DVD audition can include a full song, a monologue, a jazz combination and a tap combination, if the student feels comfortable tapping. The DVD can be made on a home video camera and does not need to be of professional quality. The audition is not going to be affected at all by the quality of the taping, provided that the work can be easily seen and heard. It is acceptable to send cuts of live performances as long as the applicant can be clearly seen and is singing solo in the vocal section. A thorough description of whom the candidate is if he or she is performing within a group is required. The length of the dances, scenes and songs will be left to the applicant's discretion. About two minutes of each is sufficient. The audition should be sent in DVD format and, as with the live audition, should include the 2012 application form, a letter of recommendation, the $35.00 audition fee and photograph or a headshot. DVD applications are due by March 2, 2012 and must be mailed to the: Broadway Theatre Project Inc. |
