HOW MANY PEOPLE AUDITION?
Given that there are at least eight live audition sites each season, as well as countless DVD auditions submitted, one can anticipate that many hundreds of people audition for BTP each year.
HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE ACCEPTED?
Approximately 200 students are accepted each year into BTP. Students are divided into a pre-professional group of four classes and a pre-college group of four classes. Each class is comprised of 30 apprentices.
WHAT IS MEANT BY ‘APPRENTICE’ AT BTP?
Students at Broadway Theatre Project are referred to as Apprentices. Apprentices are considered up and coming professionals and take classes in this highly professional environment. All Apprentices participate in the rigorous BTP curriculum and participate in the festival.
WHAT IS A DAY AT BTP LIKE?
Classes are held seven days a week from 8:30am until 10:00pm. A day at BTP might include two dance classes, two vocal classes and two acting classes. Apprentices are also given the opportunity to sign up for private vocal and acting lessons. Evenings are spent either in rehearsals for the final performances or in classes. Specialty classes such as Collaboration, Broadway Repertory, and Audition Workshop are also included in the schedule. Classes are divided into groups of approximately 30 based upon faculty observations after the first day of auditions. Visiting Artist days may be different in structure. Usually Apprentices gather together for special Question and Answer sessions and/or Master Classes with artists such as Ben Vereen, Patrick Wilson and Jed Bernstein.
WHAT HEALTH CARE IS PROVIDED TO APPRENTICES?
There are three health care facilities available to apprentices should an illness or injury occur. These facilities are: (a) the University of South Florida Health Center; (b) the Walk-In Clinic located on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard directly across from the University; and (c) the University Community Hospital, located on Fletcher Avenue directly across from the University.
